Last weekend I captured a Fort Collins wedding that embodied everything beautiful about big weddings.
But first, let’s hop back a step. 4 years ago, I was shooting a wedding in Alaska and during that trip met my friends Kayla & Lane. The portraits I shot with them that year became their engagement photos, and last year I returned to Alaska to celebrate their wedding with them. While I was shooting Kayla & Lane’s wedding, I met Erica and Leif.
Two people that from the moment I met them filled my heart. They are those people that make you smile instantly, and feel like family from day one. Who will bend over backwards for those they love, who work to leave the world and their community better than when they found it. Who are brilliant, who have hearts of gold, and who deserve and compliment one another in every way possible. And most importantly, who are beautiful partners but still wildly individual; with a sense of adventure that will take them to wonderous places.
Jay and I headed for Colorado last week to capture Erica & Leif. We were met with the coolest curated treats in our hotel room (which they got for us when our camper broke) & the biggest smiles when we arrived at the wedding. The celebration they had reminded me of some very important things that really do mean the world. It reminded me of the beauty in big weddings, ones that showcase an entire community built around the hearts of two extraordinary people. It reminded me how a love so big can bring people together. It also reminded me of the beauty of a good party, of giant smiles, of dancing & good food. There is certainly a beauty in each type of celebration I capture, and I’m so thankful to have the diversity in my life that I do. I’m also so grateful to have been a part of such a magnificent day.
Here’s to a lifetime of joy, happiness, community & love for these two, and a lifetime of adventures with good friends for us all.
Special thanks to Block One Events for hosting us, Erica & Leif’s family and friends for the warm welcome and countless hours making this day happen, and to Wild Blossoms Studio for the beautiful florals.
